Connecting from the Heart, Body to Mind

Vision Circles

(24 hour class, 2 graduate credits)

The Vision Circles class is an exploration of eight areas of perceptual intelligence. We experience each of these areas as a circle or "life space," its specific boundaries imposed by the activities it involves. Although the eight Vision Circles develop simultaneously, each circle activates distinct brain circuitry and has a unique character and vocabulary by which it can be identified. Each session of the course may be reminiscent of our play and our exploration of the world as children, as each is naturally emphasized during a specific stage of our early growth and development.

The Vision Circles is an exploration of eight areas of perceptual intelligence. We experience each of these areas as a circle or "life space", its specific boundaries imposed by the activities it involves. How is each Circle presented?

Each three-hour circle is presented using Edu-K's five-step balance format with noticing and sometimes muscle checking used to anchor each learning step. We begin each circle by establishing our visual SPACE, discussing the circle, setting our goals and doing pre-activities related to the circle. Our movement menu includes Brain Gym® and Vision Gym® as well as art, movement or play experiences that generally have a balancing effect on that circle. Additionally, we may do individual five-step balances for more specific personal goals. Finally, we do our post-activities and celebrate our new learning.

The following skills will be explored:

  • Perceptual skills of seeing, hearing, touching and relating to gravity.
  • Cognitive skills of thinking, questioning and processing information.
  • Expressive skills of feeling, movement and creating communication.

Taken together, the circles help us to access and to develop our active vision. Active vision is intelligent vision, selecting and screening from infinite possibilities according to an evolving sense of what is important. Active vision engages us in relationship with the environment of each circle, so that we see not only with our eyes but also with our whole sensory apparatus.

CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Below are descriptions of the classes Dr. Spalding teaches.

Brain Gym 101

(24 hour class, 2 graduate credits)

This class teaches the experience of whole brain integration through a movement-based educational model centered around 26 simple activities and balances that recall the movement children naturally do during their first years of life as they learn to coordinate their eyes, ears, hands and hole body. In addition to the twenty six Brain Gym® exercises you will also learn the Edu-K Balance Process and the Dennison Laterality Repatterning.

Discover a permanent tool for reaching personal goals. The applications are for students, teachers, parents, artists, athletes, health care practitioners and business professionals.

Learning Objectives

This course introduces the 26 basic Brain Gym movements as well as the fundamental steps for facilitating the Brain Gym process with others. This course stands on its own and is a pre-requisite for many other courses in the Edu-K curriculum.

What You Will Learn - This 24-hour course introduces you to using Brain Gym to benefit yourself and others. You will learn how to draw out potential in all areas of life by using powerful Brain Gym tools, including:

  • 4 Steps to Get Ready - This four-minute Brain Gym warm-up helps you feel focused, relaxed, and ready to begin any new task or challenge.
  • 26 Specific Movement Activities - Quick, simple physical movements that enhance specific skills, such as memory, math, reading, writing and communication, while improving creativity, energy levels, athletic performance, and school and business success.
  • Two Repatterning Sequences -The Dennison Laterality Repatterning and the Three Dimension Repatterning "remind" different areas of your brain to work together synergistically. They are especially useful for improving focus, participation, organization and assist in creating greater ease in everyday tasks and physical activities.
